Magic: the Gathering: New Doctor Who cards revealed

During San Diego Comic Con, exciting spoilers for the Magic: The Gathering Doctor Who crossover set were unveiled, showcasing a variety of new cards like Planechase cards, creatures, sagas, and more. Let's dive into this fresh batch of MTG cards!

Pre-order Magic the Gathering: Doctor Who here.

To begin with, the Doctor Who MTG Commander decks come with an extra twist – they also function as Planechase decks. This introduces a slew of new Planechase planes and phenomena, all cleverly tied to the Doctor Who theme. For instance, in Bad Wolf Bay, you can blink creatures, but beware, when chaos is rolled, they'll be stuck in exile. On Tardis Bay, rolling chaos allows you to steal the TARDIS, gaining control of an artifact before planeswalking away.

The most impactful addition is The Doctor's Tomb, a card that allows players to swap life totals, making for intriguing strategic possibilities.

Moving on to the regular cards, they introduce a novel time travel mechanic involving suspend. The Tenth Doctor's focus is all about time travel, while the TARDIS enables planeswalking and grants your spells cascade. However, Exterminate stands out as a brutal kill spell, especially effective if you have daleks available to tap.

Finally, there are special versions of cards that will be found exclusively in collector boosters. Currently, it seems that the precon decks and collector boosters will be the primary products available for this set.

The release of these card reveals took the community by surprise, as the MTG Commander Masters previews, including the Commander Masters Eldrazi deck, had only just concluded. Spoiler season seems to be a never-ending excitement these days!
