Ravensburger reveals new Disney Lorcana song cards
In an ICv2 exclusive, Ravensburger has unveiled new Song cards for Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, along with some insights into the mechanics behind these cards.
A captivating aspect of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter is its Song mechanics, inspired by the timeless and award-winning songs from Walt Disney Studios' animated movies over the years. The game designers aimed to capture the enchanting essence of these songs in their upcoming trading card game (TCG).
The Song cards represent a distinct type of action card, offering players an alternative method of paying the Ink cost. Players can now have their characters "sing" the Song into play, fulfilling the required Ink cost (or even exceeding it) on the Song card. To perform the Song, the character is exerted, akin to tapping or turning it sideways. This singing action still counts as playing a card, while ensuring that the player's Inkwell reserves remain available. Moreover, characters tagged with the "singer" keyword can perform higher Ink cost Songs, adding another layer of strategic depth.
By introducing Song cards, players are granted additional options for their characters during their turn, beyond traditional quests and duels. This versatility allows for more resource management and unleashes powerful effects on the board. Among the Song cards, two favorites highlighted by co-designer Steve Warner are "Be Prepared" and "A Whole New World."
"Be Prepared" functions as a Ruby Ink board wipe, playable by high Ink cost characters (7 or more). This card banishes all characters on the board, essentially resetting the board state.
"A Whole New World" is an incredibly potent Steel Ink Song, accessible to characters costing 5 or more Ink. When sung, this Song allows each player to discard their hand and draw seven new cards. For players who deplete their hands rapidly, exerting a single character to trigger this Song replenishes their hand, while keeping the Inkwell ready to summon new characters into play. The card bears similarities to "Wheel of Fortune" from Magic: The Gathering's 1993-1995 era and has the potential to be a game-changer, particularly for Steel Ink decks that already showcase direct damage Actions and characters with Challenger.
With these new Disney Lorcana Song cards, players can immerse themselves in the magic of Disney's iconic songs while exploring exciting gameplay possibilities and devising innovative strategies.
